It was just a year ago that we received an invitation to sing with Distinguished Concerts International New York at Carnegie Hall. In a couple of weeks we’ll join with about 350 other singers from around the world to sing Handel’s Messiah on the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
55 singers and another 30 friends and family will travel to NYC and begin a rigorous rehearsal schedule the day after Thanksgiving. We have been rehearsing throughout late spring and summer, preparing to sing with a symphony orchestra under a world renowned director. It will be interesting to see Betty singing alto instead of directing!
The support of our community has been absolutely amazing. From a large matching donation to individual donations and community grants, we have seen a large amount of our performance and travel costs covered. We especially thank Caroline Titus of the Ferndale Enterprise for keeping the choir on the front cover of the paper, promoting our trip, and helping us raise the funds we need.
We’ll be updating our website as frequently as we can, and posting to Facebook while we’re on our trip, so keep an eye out!
Our first concert is the Saturday after we return from New York, so we’ve been doubling up on Christmas rehearsals and “New York” rehearsals. We’ve got a great set of music, including a lovely piece with handbells, and piano music for four hands . . . Dana Christen and Sharon Welton will play before and after the concerts, and a fabulous Angels We Have Heard on High with the choir.
So we hope we’ll see you at one or all of our concerts, and we thank you for your support!
