Rehearsals have begun! and our Director is pretty happy.
Fundraising for our trip to Carnegie Hall in New York City is in full swing!
Check out the amazing and ever so generous work of Lucy and Ethel in the Ferndale Enterprise! They are helping us get so close to getting matching funds up to $25,000 from an anonymous donor!
We have a number of ways to help choir members with the costs of underwriting and travel to sing Handel’s Messiah – see our Crowdrise site by clicking here . . . watch for auction items in The Ferndale Enterprise . . . watch for events to be held at The Steeple in Ferndale in August and October. And you can always send a check to the Ferndale Community Choir, P O Box 67, Ferndale CA 95536.
The Choir is a non-profit 501(c)(3) so your contributions are tax deductible. Look for updates on our website, and like us for updates from Facebook. Thank you for all your help!
It’s hard to believe that January is already on the way out. We’re beginning rehearsals for the Spring season this week!
We have a total of 82 people signed on for the Carnegie Hall performance with Distinguished Concerts New York – 51 singers and 31 VIP patrons. We’ve ordered our copies of Handel’s Messiah and are set to begin additional rehearsals shortly. Fundraising continues with more information to come soon.
And . . . one of our Christmas Celebration in Song concerts is up for viewing – the concert at Christ Episcopal. Enjoy!
Christmas rapidly approaches . . . our concerts are over and we look forward to relaxing over the holiday, and beginning fundraising in earnest in January.
If you didn’t have a chance to be at a concert, we’ll be posting videos shortly (as soon as I finish making Christmas gifts!) on Facebook and YouTube. We had the opportunity to sing at Christ Episcopal this year instead of the Fortuna Christmas Music Festival, and though we missed the Festival vibe, it was fabulous – as always – to sing in the amazing Christ Episcopal venue. Thanks to all who attended – we hope your holidays were enlarged by our music.
We have about 50 people signed up to sing next year in New York at Carnegie Hall, and more than 30 family members and friends who are coming with us. All I can say is: Wow. Just wow.
We have begun fundraising for our trip – all told, we will need over $120,000 for travel, hotel, and concert underwriting fees. Our singers, family , and friends are committed to paying all we need to, but we are also committed to raising as much as we can to defray costs. We received donations at our concerts, and the Times Standard did a nice piece from which we hope to raise more funds. We have a number of ideas and some great support from Ferndale business people. And amazingly, an anonymous donor will match all donations up to $25,000.
The reason we’re talking about this now is that now is a great time to make a donation – since the Choir is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, all donations are tax deductible. So we encourage you to donate now! Donations can be mailed to:
The Ferndale Community Choir
P O Box 67
Ferndale CA 95536
A receipt for your donation will be sent you you.
After the holidays we’ll put together a donation site. You’ll want to stay tuned for some exciting events . . . and we’ll be sure to keep you posted as to what’s coming up next.
We’re so excited to say that the Ferndale Community Choir has been invited by Distinguished Concerts International New York (DCINY) to sing Handel’s Messiah with 400 singers of choirs from around the world at Carnegie Hall at the end of November 2017. This is an annual event that in 2014 was rated the #1 Live Christmas Performance in North America by the BBC Music Magazine. The choir performs the Beecham / Goossens’ 1959 grand re-orchestration of the Messiah for full symphony orchestra, and features professional soloists.
DCINY approached the Choir after viewing its videos, and the invitation is a distinct honor. The event is underwritten by its performers, paying for the rent of Carnegie Hall, the symphony orchestra, soloists, and production. This allows DCINY to focus on producing events accessible to choral groups from around the globe.
About 40 members of the choir from Trinidad to Willow Creek, Rio Dell – and of course, Ferndale – are committed to rehearsing year-round for our regular concerts as well as the concert in New York, and, importantly, raising the cost of underwriting, travel, and lodging. We expect to have several fundraising events over the coming year, and are absolutely amazed to say that an anonymous donor will match all donations up to $25,000. The choir is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so donations are fully tax deductible.
Donations can be made payable to Ferndale Community Choir, and sent to P O Box 67, Ferndale CA 95536. Be sure to include a return address, and a receipt for donation will be mailed to you for tax purposes.
I just uploaded the Christmas 2013 concert (from the Catholic Church in Ferndale).
A totally different perspective for me . . . I was sick and unable to sing for all three concerts. It was great to watch the choir and hear from an audience perspective. However . . . I will indeed say that it is much more fun to sing!
Thanks to Dottie Pierce, Julie Reinman, and Liz Smith for filling in . . .
This is the first significant update to our website in quite a few years. This format is one that is much easier to use and update.
As time goes on, I’m hoping that we can touch base with people who’ve sung before and share new information with people who sing now. And of course I want this to be a place for people to find information about concerts and the choir.
So enjoy the website! Comment and share information to your heart’s content. See you soon . . . Susan
